Is London Ambassadors right for you?
London Ambassadors will welcome visitors from all over the UK and the world to London during the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
To become a London Ambassador, you'll need to commit to six consecutive days of volunteering. Each daily shift will last for five hours. In return, we'll give you:
- free travel within zones 1-6 for each day you volunteer
- food and refreshments during your shift (£5 per day)
- a uniform that you can keep
- a mobile device to help you while you're volunteering.
Training and support
Throughout the programme, you'll be given all the training and help you need to make sure you're ready to welcome the world to London.
Before your first shift, you'll attend three training sessions to prepare you for your time as a London Ambassador. For example, you'll get the chance to:
- discover more about your chosen location
- learn other skills, eg first aid
- find out more about the Games
- meet your team leader
During your shifts, your team leader will be available to answer your questions and help you deal with any difficult situations.
What you won't be doing
London Ambassadors won't be performing specialist roles - such as medical support, security or stewarding - within the Olympic stadium or other venues.
We can't pay for transport outside of zones 1-6, except to designated sites outside of London where London Ambassadors will be based - for example, Stansted Airport. If you live outside of zone 6, you can still be a London Ambassador, but you'll need to pay for your own travel.
London Ambassadors won't receive Games tickets, although a small number of tickets and other giveaways will be up for grabs in competitions that only London Ambassadors can enter.
